iOS 4.3

MacStories's being tipped from a reliable source that iOS 4.2.1 was delayed and released after its released date. Anyway, before the WiFi issues were discovered, Apple was already planning to release a new build of iOS 4.x in mid-December. Most specifically, they were planning for an iOS 4.3 release on December 13th, which is a Monday.

Here’s what we heard from a reliable source: when Apple didn’t know about the WiFi issues in the GM seed of iOS 4.2, the OS was scheduled to be released weeks before Nov. 22nd. Apple found out about the WiFi issues, released a second GM build and iOS 4.2 came out yesterday. It came out in November, but it should have been out in the first half of November. Anyway, before the WiFi issues were discovered, Apple was already planning to release a new build of iOS 4.x in mid-December. Most specifically, they were planning for an iOS 4.3 release on December 13th, which is a Monday.

Our source tells us it is unclear whether the “extra time” that was required to ship iOS 4.2 (actually, it’s iOS 4.2.1) will cause a delay for the rumored release of iOS 4.3 on December 13th or not. iOS 4.3 should, however, include bug fixes and maintenance of the code. It’s likely that 4.3 will also address the initial issues found in AirPlay, but we can’t confirm this just yet.

How to Update iPhone 3GS / 3G Baseband to 06.15.00 with Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for iOS 4.2.1 Unlock

Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 has just been released which can jailbreak and update iPhone 3GS & 3G baseband to 06.15.00 so that it can be unlocked using the newly released Ultrasn0w 1.2.
The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out.  It gives both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS.  It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now).  There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are getting pounded right now)
If you do flash your baseband via redsn0w, please keep it plugged into USB the whole time.  You don’t want your battery to die during the flash process!
WARNING:
YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!  PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
  1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple.  You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
  2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
  3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail).  You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
Note: This release of Redsn0w is mainly targeted for iPhone 3GS & 3G users on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1 who rely on a carrier unlock. All iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch users who don’t rely on a carrier unlock should follow the instructions posted here to jailbreak their iOS device on iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4.
Follow the instructions posted below to update your iPhone 3GS or 3G to 06.15.00 baseband and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 /4.2.1.
Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS or 3G.
Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 firmware to proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” & “Install iPad baseband” options and then click “Next” to continue. Redsn0w will now fetch the exploitable 06.15.00 baseband from 3.2.2 firmware and will replace it the baseband in iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1.

Note: Install iPad baseband option is applicable to iPhone 3GS & 3G users only who rely on a carrier unlock.
Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins

Step 6: Sit back and enjoy while Redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware, with the unlockable 06.15.00 baseband.
For iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G, iPad ONLY:
Step 7:
Now from here onwards, whenever you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSHing into your device, or running Cydia, you must first run your device in the so called “jailbroken state” on every reboot by using “Just boot tethered right now” option in Redsn0w.

Ultra-recycle

Today we’re pleased to announce our free carrier unlock for iPhone3G/3GS owners with a baseband later than 05.13.04.  The unlock for that baseband exploited the AT+XAPP command, thanks to a crash initially discovered by @sherif_hashim (@Oranav also found this crash).  So what hole are we exploiting today, since Apple closed that AT+XAPP hole?  Well, we’re exploiting the exact same hole!
It turns out that the very first iPad firmware 3.2.2 has baseband version 06.15.00 still vulnerable to AT+XAPP.  The iPad baseband is built for the exact same baseband chip as the iPhone3G/3GS — they’re fully compatible!  Some of us have been running 06.15 for weeks now on our iPhones in preparation for this release.
Since 06.15 is a higher version than 05.14 or 05.15 (where AT+XAPP is gone), anyone stuck at those versions can simply upgrade to 06.15 to unlock again!  Luckily for us, Apple *still* provides the iPad FW 3.2.2 with this vulnerable baseband right from their own servers. (Grab it now, before they take it down!)
We’ve been busy updating both PwnageTool and redsn0w to make the baseband update as seamless as possible.
  1. First up is “PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition”.  It has a special dialog box which will ask you if you want to update to the iPad baseband.  You must already have the iPad 3.2.2 IPSW on your computer (see the above link)….so just point PwnageTool at it (or let it find it on its own if you’re in “simple” mode).
  2. Directly after PwnageTool 4.1.3 is available, the official ultrasn0w repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com will be updated with ultrasn0w 1.2, which covers iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and now 06.15.00.
  3. Finally, we’ll release an update to redsn0w today for those without Macs and can’t run PwnageTool.  The new redsn0w will give you the option to update your baseband to 06.15 too.
WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to!  Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.
This PwnageTool also contains a 4.2.1 bundle for iPhone3G owners…for all else, it’s still only 4.1.  If you have an iPhone3GS with an old bootrom, the new redsn0w will handle 4.2.1 for you (in fact it covers 4.2.1 for all devices, even though some of them are still tethered at 4.2.1 until @comex can work some untethering magic).  iPhone3GS users with old bootroms who want to go to 4.2.1 should not use this PwnageTool!  Update to stock 4.2.1 first, then use the upcoming redsn0w to update your baseband.

iPhone Music Downloads – 7 Tips to gather the Top Service for iPhone Music

iPhone Music Downloads – 7 Tips to gather the Top Service for iPhone Music

Filed Under (entertainment) by arief on 28-11-2010

iPhone owners are getting angry about loading their unusual gizmos with iPhone music downloads. After all, the phone-cum-digital portable media player can store up to 100 songs easily and allow a playtime of up to 24 hours of audio. This article will point to you 7 hot tips to pick up the top service befitting of your current toy when it comes to iPhone music downloads.
1. Free or Paid
Freebie seekers probably would argue with me on this. There is nothing wicked with wanting free iPhone music downloads. Who doesn’t anyway? But the concern is that free websites that give you music for free are often associated with exposure to viruses, spyware and adware when downloading media files there. Our phones are too current and precious and to risk exposing them to these noxious elements is a No No.
How about downloading each iPhone song for $0.99 or more at online music services like HMV, iTunes and so on? People wouldn’t mind if it is only one or two song. But if we are going to load up at least a 100 songs or soundtracks, this is going to be expensive.
There are now services that offer a lifetime membership for a flat fee of lower than $49.95 to access unlimited iPhone music downloads. These are the proper gems!
2. Variety & Size of iPhone Music Library
Music lovers probably have their preferred music. You may not like pop but to another, pop may really sound comely. If you care for all kinds of music, go with the services that offer multiple genres from Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, Classical to many unheard music genre. Several top sites now offer over 100 million media files including music videos, TV shows and even movies and games.
3. Download Interface
This is a key feature that must not be overlooked. For easy navigation, the interface must be simple to exercise and does not remove long to search and come by your music files. One draw to score a rough view is to peek how professionally done the region is and to read comments of existing users.
4. Software Applications for Download and Conversion
Several of the more established services are providing free software applications required to download iPhone music as well as movie and video files. They also provide the conversion software needed to convert movies and music file formats into iPhone-compatible formats. The top services also offer you a free DVD conversion software that transfer movies from DVDs to your iPhone.
5. mercurial Downloading Speeds
develop positive that the download speeds are swiftly. Music file sizes are about 3-4 MB per song. Assuming you are downloading 20 songs at a go, the service must not limit your bandwidth usage by slowing down the hurry. This is what some poorly bustle B-grade services do.
6. great Download Environment
Some services do not provide fine secured environment with a high level of security and safety when you download iPhone music downloads. The last thing you want to disaster about is adware, spyware and viruses that could invent their contrivance to your computer because the music store refuses to buck up on its system architecture.
7. After-sales Customer Care and Support
Many services impartial want to beget more money. While they promise a 24/7 technical wait on to entice you to join them, they are hardly around when you need them to serve troubleshoot when you face difficulties. Thankfully, there are a few reputable ones who can command an helpful level of after-sales service.
behold around and expend these tips to salvage a favorable service for your iPhone music downloads. Want to know which services win well in every aspect mentioned? Read up my iPhone blog.

How to Jailbreak / Unlock Windows Phone 7 (Omnia 7) with ChevronWP7 Unlocker [Guide]

By Taimur Asad | November 27th, 2010
The first user-friendly Windows Phone 7 jailbreak has been released. Its called ChevronWP7 and it has been developed by well known and respected Microsoft community enthusiasts Rafael Rivera, Long Zheng and Chris Walsh. ChevronWP7
Homescreen: Omnia 7
From the official site:
Today we have an exciting breakthrough for the Windows Phone 7 homebrew community – the ability for anyone to unlock a WP7 device without a Marketplace developer account.
Unlocking allows the sideloading of experimental applications that would otherwise can’t be published to the Marketplace, such as those which access private or native APIs.
The following step by step guide will help you jailbreak (or unlock; that’s what the developers are calling it for WP7 phones) your device so that you can install apps without needing Windows Marketplace.
NOTE: Unlocking Windows Phone 7 with ChevronWP7 may void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable. Proceed at your own risk only.
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of Zune desktop software for Windows.
Step 2: Download and install the latest version of Windows Phone SDK, OR simply download this registry key and execute it on your Windows machine with administrative access. This registry key will add the following entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]
“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
Step 3: Now connect your Windows Phone 7 device (Samsung Omnia 7 in my case) with your PC via USB.
Jailbreak Unlock WP7
Step 4: Start Zune software and sync your device. Make sure your device has a “full sync” relationship, and NOT “guest” relationship with the Zune software as shown in the screenshot below.
WP7 Unlock Jailbreak
Step 5: Download ChevronWP7 (Windows Phone 7 Unlocker app) and run it.
Step 6: Before unlocking, make sure your device is not locked with a PIN.
Step 7: Check “Ensure your phone isn’t PIN-locked” and “Install certificate on phone using Internet Explorer at http://chevronwp7.com/cert” options, and then click on the “Unlock” button.
WP7 Unlock Jailbreak (1)
WP7 Unlock Jailbreak (2)
Step 8: That’s it! your phone is now unlocked ! You can now install (sideload) any third-party WP7 app without requiring a Marketplace developer account.
The best thing about this “unlocker / jailbreak” is that it is completely reversible. If you connect your phone with PC again and run ChevronWP7 app, you will notice a “Relock” button which will allow you to relock your phone to its original state.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using RedSn0w (Windows) [4.2.1

Tuesday, 23rd November 2010, 09:11 pm

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on the 4.2.1 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. The Mac version of this tutorial is here.

Do not upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 if you need the unlock as there is no unlock for iOS 4.2.1's baseband yet.

If you have an iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom you will only be able to perform a tethered jailbreak at this time. This means you will need Redsn0w's assistance to boot into your jailbroken device.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 4.2.1 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

4.2.1 (3GS): iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw

Extract the redsn0w executable from the RedSn0w zip file into the same folder.

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.

Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.

Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button

Step Five
Select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open.

You will be asked if this device is a newer fixed model. If yours is then click the Yes button; otherwise, click the No button. At this time you can only perform an untethered jailbreak on the older model.

Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.

Step Seven
RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data

Step Eight
From this window you can select the jailbreak options you would like.

Verbose boot displays detailed information on boot of your device and is generally only needed by developers and advanced users.

Make sure Cydia is selected. For this tutorial we will also select Custom boot logo and Custom recovery logo.

When you click to select each custom logo option a dialog window will appear asking you to select the image. Locate the image you would like to use then press the Open button.

*Remember the rules for boot logos are: RGB or Grayscale format with Alpha channel and dimension below 320x480. If you would like to use the iClarified ones they can be found here: Boot Logo, Recovery Logo

Click the Next button to continue

Step Nine
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

Step Ten
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode here

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step Eleven
Your iPhone will now reboot

Step Twelve
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.

Step Thirteen
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

IMPORTANT:
If you have a newer iPhone 3GS and performed a tethered jailbreak you can use Redsn0w to help you boot back into your jailbroken device. Simply select Just boot tethered right now from the options window and click Next.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 Using Limera1n (Windows)

This entry needs translation. To help us and submit a translation please click here
These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 using Limera1n for Windows. Limera1n supports iOS 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, and 4.1.

Remember: Do not update to iOS 4.1 if you need the unlock. Ultrasn0w does not support that baseband yet. The only exception is the iPhone 4. You can update to iOS 4.1 without upgrading your baseband by following this tutorial.

Step One
Open your web browser of choice and navigate to http://www.limera1n.com. Click the Download for Windows link at the bottom of the screen.

Step Two
When prompted save the download to your desktop

Step Three
Double click the limera1n.exe file from the desktop to launch the application

Step Four
Click the large make it ra1n button

Step Five
You iPhone will now be placed in recovery mode.

Press both the power and the home buttons.

When Limera1n asks you to, release the power button.

Your phone will now be in DFU mode

As limera1n performs its exploit you will see the image of a lime raindrop on your iPhone.

Limera1n will let you know when it is complete.

Step Six
After you power back on your iPhone you will see a new icon on the SpringBoard entitled limera1n. Press it to continue.

Step Seven
Once Limera1n opens select Cydia then press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Eight
Once the Cydia installation has completed you must reboot your iPhone.

Step Nine
When your iPhone has restarted you can run Cydia. Let it do all the necessary updates then follow our Unlock tutorial if possible for your device.

NOTE*: To remove the limera1n icon from your desktop you can install CyDelete from Cydia then use it to delete the application. Eventually this capability should be present in limera1n itself.

***A big thanks goes everyone who made this jailbreak possible.
