Facebook Launches New Unified Mobile Website

Facebook, the largest social network on the planet is today launching a new, unified mobile website.
There are currently two versions of Facebook for mobile devices – m.mobile.com and touch.mobile.com. The former is for all devices with touch screens while the latter is designed for more advanced smartphone hardware. From today forward though, m.mobile.com will be the only mobile version of Facebook, writes Mashable’s Ben Parr.

According to Facebook, the reason behind the change is one of innovation. Having to maintain two separate websites that are basically the same backend but with different interfaces isn’t great for helping a company the size of Facebook stay agile.
Facebook’s Lee Byron says the new Facebook mobile site will adapt itself depending on the hardware you are visiting from:
“There will no longer be a difference between m.facebook.com and touch.facebook.com, we’ll automatically serve you the best version of the site for your device,”
Whether end users notice a change at all will depend on what hardware they are using, writes Parr, with only slight user interface changes visible. The real action is going on under the hood. Using Facebook’s own Javascript network named Javelin as well as XML/PHP the changes promise a faster, more sleek user experience no matter the hardware.
The new website is made possible through a new UI framework that incorporates XHP (a PHP extension that incorporates XML), Javelin (Facebook’s lightweight Javascript framework) and WURFL (an open source mobile device database). The framework is dynamic enough to detect the UI and limitations of individual devices and adjust to them automatically.

iOS 4.3.1 Untethered Jailbreak in Beta Stage by iPhone Dev Team

After showing off his iPod being jailbroken on iOS 4.3.1, the iPhone security expert Seten Esser yesterday tweeted that the has been handed over to iPhone-Dev Team who are currently testing it in its beta stages and maybe out anytime soon after its successful testing on their Redsnow or PwnageTool.

@i0n1c: The iPhone-Dev-Team is already beta testing the untether. So it is up to them to give you your tool of choice

@i0n1c: Please don't bother the Dev-Team now. The deal is: if the beta test is successful, they are free to do whatever they want with it.

So it seems like we can get it anytime soon, but the other fact that lies here is that it won't work on iPad 2 as Apple has already patched Comex's exploit on iOS 4.3.1 so we also need a new exploit for that one.

Use Skype for iPhone as a Home Security Camera Monitor

f you have a small child that is watched by a baby sitter in your house, or just want to know what your really weird roommate does when you aren’t home, listen up! If you have a desktop computer or laptop with a webcam, then you already have a security camera.
Now all you need is an iPad 3G or iPhone that is compatible with Skype’s iOS app to act as the monitor. This way you will be able to see what is going on in your home using your iDevice, from anywhere that you can get 3G service…

Step 1: So now that you have the tools needed, you just need to install Skype on your desktop. Visit Skype website, it will allow you download the desktop version for either Windows or Mac. You will then need to make sure you have the mobile version for iOS installed on your iDevice. You will obviously need a constant internet connection to the desktop and Skype will need to remain open on your computer for this to work.
Step 2: You will need 2 Skype accounts. If you don’t have a Skype name already, just use the iPhone app to set up your main account, and use the desktop version of Skype to create the 2nd one. This 2nd account will be used only to connect to your Macbook’s webcam so make sure it’s a complicated Skype name and not to give it out to anyone. Once both accounts are registered, log into Skype on both your iDevice and your computer.

Step 3: You then want to turn on Automatic Answer in Skype on your desktop. It is found in the Skype Preferences panel under the Calls tab. You may also want to check ‘Start Video Automatically’ and uncheck ‘Show Call Controls’
Step 4: Try it out! Open the Skype Mobile app on your iPhone or iPad and make sure you are logged in to your main account. In the search bar type in the Skype name that your desktop computer is currently logged in as and it should come up. Press the Video Call button and within minutes you should see what your webcam at home sees!

f you are trying to go incognito I would recommend turning the volume on your desktop all the way down and dimming your display. Even when automatically answering calls, the Skype app is noisy and very visible. Skype will not work if your laptop is closed or your computer is locked.I love the fact that I can place my Macbook anywhere in my house and can take a quick peek at that room, even if I’m on vacation! It is important to note that I still have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with AT&T, those who don’t have unlimited data should use caution when using Skype away from Wi-Fi.

Since the launch of iPad 2 we knew we were going to see gold and diamond versions of it anytime soon. This, however, isn’t just a gold or diamond made iPad. This iPad 2 is as sexy as Cleopatra.
Obviously it’s not something you can easily get your hands on because it’s expensive. How expensive? that’s not important to know before you have this eyegasmic experience. Designed by Stuart Hughes, known for crafting one of the most luxurious products, this masterpiece only has 2 pieces. Don’t worry about the stock, you probably can’t grab one anyway.

The back which is made up of 24ct gold with an immense weight of 2000 grams has a magnificent total of 53 individually set sparkling gems dwell beautifully in solid 24ct Apple logo. Front frame is made from the oldest rock the world has to offer (75 million years old) in the form of Ammolite. What makes it more individual is 65 million year old T-REX Dinosaur’s thigh bone which was splintered and then shaved into the Ammolite, then finished off with ultimate jewel, as single cut 8.5ct flawless diamond inlaid in its own platinum surrounded with 12 outer flawless diamonds. Interestingly, these are the only specs available even on the official website of those who crafted this. No word whatsoever on the technical specs.

UPDATE your Twitter for iPad & iPhone

Twitter for iPhone is already the third-most popular way to access Twitter (after Twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com) and our official iPad app is the top way for people to connect with Twitter on Apple’s tablet. Today, we introduced a handful of new features that make them even better.
These include:

- Photos. Uploading photos is now easier than ever. There’s a camera button in the toolbar and we improved the image preview, so you can quickly choose a photo from your library or take a new picture.
- Follow your friends. Now you can find which of your friends are on Twitter that have chosen to be discoverable through the contacts on your phone.
- Local trends. See trends based on your location.
- Shorten links. When you want to share a link on Twitter, just paste it into the Tweet box and we’ll automatically shorten it.
- Tweet box design. We redesigned the “New Tweet” screen so it’s now cleaner and simpler.
- Autocomplete. When tweeting on-the-go, speed and accuracy are important. Autocomplete for @ and hashtags help you tweet faster
- Direct Messages. The new Direct Message conversation view helps you better keep track of messages.

And one very cool update is iPhone specific – for now. We’ve introduced the Quick Bar that lets you quickly see trends at the top of your timeline. You can swipe the Quick Bar to the left or right to see additional trends.

You can download Twitter on your iPhone or iPad from the iTunes App Store, or visit twitter.com/download.

iPhone 5 to Get Aluminum Backing And Internal Antenna

According to Economic Daily News which has been told by a Chinese source (translated by Macotakara) that Apple is abandoning the glass backing of the iPhone 4 in favor of an aluminum casing as well as ditching the external antenna design.

According to the source the;

Decision to design similar to iPod touch instead of using glass is supposed that Apple seems to stop problems which are told widely damages from scratching, difficulties of painting white and weight of glass.
The source also reported that Apple is abandoning the current external antenna design that was plagued with controversy over the “death-grip” signal loss and attenuation issue. Although unclear, it seems that the translation implies that the “antenna will be designed to penetrate cellular and Wi-Fi waves via resin made Apple logo” which Apple actually does have a patent for.

Finally the source noted that Apple will include the new A5 processor in the fifth iteration of the iPhone, the same processor in the new iPad 2. As with all Apple rumors, including those regarding the iPhone 5, take them with a grain of salt. In particular when the source has a shaky record in previously predicting a 7-inch iPad by Christmas 2010. [Via MacRumors]

All you Need to know on iOS 4.3

In case you you hesitated about updating to iOS 4.3 or not, here's you can find what's new on iOS 4.3

Better Performance

In recent years, browser makers have found that optimizing the JavaScript engine is the best way to increase speed and performance when loading web pages on the desktop. We’re now starting to see these optimizations applied to the mobile browser.
In iOS 4.3, Apple has migrated its Nitro JavaScript engine from Safari 5.0 on the desktop to Safari for iOS. Apple says that these performance tweaks mean that JavaScript will run up to twice as fast in iOS 4.2. As more websites take advantage of JavaScript to provide interactive features and animations, a faster JavaScript engine should equal a more responsive web browsing experience.

iTunes Home Sharing

Apple didn’t announce the cloud-based media service many of us were hoping to see, but the company will be making it easier to access iTunes data from iOS devices.
iTunes for Windows and Mac has had the Home Sharing feature for quite some time. This feature makes it easy to stream media from one iTunes library to another. iOS 4.3 will bring that feature to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
Apps like Air Video [iTunes link] already offer a great way for users to access video content on their Mac or PC from an iOS device, but the iTunes Home Sharing feature will let users interact directly with iTunes.
That means that music, videos, podcasts and audio books can be streamed from a Mac or PC onto an iOS device across a shared network.

AirPlay Gets Better

Apple introduced AirPlay with the new Apple TV in October 2010 as a way to watch content from an iPhone or iPad on the big screen.
iOS 4.3 opens up AirPlay a bit and it now supports music, movies and photos. It also lets users stream videos recorded with the iPhone or iPad camera directly to the Apple TV.
What we’re really excited about is that more third-party apps can now take advantage of AirPlay and that websites can get in on the fun too. Increasingly we hope to see the AirPlay API open up more so that things like the Dark Knight movie app can make their way to our Apple TV devices.

Personal Hotspot (iPhone 4 Only)

The Verizon iPhone introduced a new feature that lets iPhone users share their 3G data connection with other devices via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. This is a popular feature on Android 2.2 devices and one the iPhone can really benefit from having.
As we’ve reported before, Personal Hotspot isn’t a feature that is limited to the Verizon iPhone — other iPhone 4 units can utilize the feature too. Pricing and data caps will vary by carrier, but true hotspot sharing (as opposed to the previous tethering option) for up to five devices (three over Wi-Fi) is coming soon.

iPad Switch Options

My least favorite part of the iOS 4.2 update for iPad is the alteration of the side button, which now functions as a mute switch rather than an orientation lock. Double tapping, sliding to the right and hitting a button is just more complicated than flipping a switch. It’s fine on the iPhone — where the side button really does make sense as a mute switch — but on the iPad it’s an annoyance.
In a very un-Apple move, the company is giving users the option to have the side switch act as a mute switch or an orientation lock. We say un-Apple because the company tends not to go back on software design decisions and generally opposes creating multiple options for the same function.
In any event, we’re very happy Apple has made this a user choice. And while most users will be fine with the defaults, I know I will be happy to bring back to the side orientation lock function to my iPad.

Calm Before the Storm

iOS 4.3 might be lacking some of the spark that we’ve seen from previous Apple releases — but remember, Apple will likely unveil the next major version of iOS alongside the next iPhone this June.
In the interim, iOS 4.3 will give developers and users more functionality to an already solid OS.

Apple in Negotiations With Labels to Allow Unlimited Downloads of Purchases

Apple is reportedly in negotiations with music labels to allow for unlimited downloading of purchased tracks, according to Bloomberg.

Apple is negotiating with music companies including Vivendi SA (VIV)’s Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG) and EMI Group Ltd., said the people, who asked for anonymity because the talks are private. An agreement may be announced by midyear, two of the people said.

This would give iTunes customers a permanent backup of their music purchases and let them download purchases directly to their other devices without the need to sync.

The new download policy is reportedly one of several service changes Apple is exploring. Improvements to the capabilities of Apple's MobileMe service and reductions in its pricing are also being considered.

This entry needs translation. To help us and submit a translation please click here
Apple today introduced iOS 4.3, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. New features in iOS 4.3 include faster Safari mobile browsing performance with the Nitro JavaScript engine; iTunes Home Sharing; enhancements to AirPlay; the choice of using the iPad™ side switch to either lock the screen rotation or mute the audio; and the Personal Hotspot feature for sharing an iPhone 4 cellular data connection over Wi-Fi.

"With more than 160 million iOS devices worldwide, including over 100 million iPhones, the growth of the iOS platform has been unprecedented," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "iOS 4.3 adds even more features to the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, across three blockbuster devices—iPad, iPhone and iPod touch—providing an ecosystem that offers customers an incredibly rich experience and developers unlimited opportunities."

The Safari mobile browsing experience gets even better with iOS 4.3. The Nitro JavaScript engine that Apple pioneered on the desktop is now built into WebKit, the technology at the heart of Safari, and more than doubles the performance of JavaScript execution using just-in-time compilation. With the Nitro JavaScript engine, Safari provides an even better mobile browser experience working faster to support the interactivity of complex sites you visit on a daily basis.

New iTunes Home Sharing allows iOS 4.3 users to play music, movies and TV shows on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch from their iTunes library on a Mac or PC over a local Wi-Fi network. With a simple tap you can enjoy all the media in your iTunes library wherever you are in your home. You can stream a movie from your Mac in one room to your iPad in another or stream an iTunes mix to your iPod touch from the office to the kitchen. With Home Sharing on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch you’ve got your entire iTunes library in your hands wherever you are in your home.

iOS 4.3 includes enhancements to AirPlay, the breakthrough wireless technology that allows users to stream music, photos and video to Apple TV. With iOS 4.3 you can stream additional content including video from third party apps and web sites, videos from the Photos app and previews from the iTunes app to your TV.* AirPlay also allows you to bring photos to life on the TV screen by using one of the stunning new slideshow transitions, or shoot a video on your iPad 2, iPhone or iPod touch and stream it directly from the Photos app to Apple TV.

The new Personal Hotspot feature in iOS 4.3 lets you bring Wi-Fi with you anywhere you go, by allowing you to share an iPhone 4 cellular data connection with up to five devices in a combination of up to three Wi-Fi, three Bluetooth and one USB device.** Joining a Personal Hotspot is easy and once the feature is enabled a status bar displays how many devices are currently connected. Every connection is password protected and when not in use Personal Hotspot turns itself off to save battery life.

More than 10 billion apps have been downloaded from the revolutionary App Store℠ and more than 350,000 apps are available, including more than 65,000 native iPad apps, to consumers in 90 countries. Users of the more than 160 million iOS devices around the world can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.

iPad 2's A5 Processor Has 512MB LPDDR2 RAM?

The iPad 2's A5 processor reportedly has 512MB of RAM and uses LPDDR2 memory which is faster than the LPDDR1 RAM used in the first generation iPad, according to Korean semiconductor analyst Kakeun Lee.

AppleInsider reports that Lee made the statements when questioned about the new iPad on Twitter. The site also notes that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities also told them that the RAM in the iPad 2 would run at a higher clock speed of 1,066MHz for greater memory bandwidth than the 800MHz memory in the iPhone 4.

Apple for some reason has refused to detail the amount of RAM in the device. Once its released on March 11th a teardown will reveal all its specifications.

Jailbreak iPad 2 on iOS 4.3 possible with SHAtter exploit?

Few hours ago, after the announcement of iPad 2 and its specs, iPhone hacker p0sixninja of Chronic Dev Team posted on his Twitter that they'll focus on the jailbreak of the new iPad 2 on iOS 4.3 once they get it.

For those who don't know, SHAtter is an exploit found in October 2010. The team wanted to release it to jailbreak iOS 4.1 but Geohot came with Limera1n exploit and suggested to save the exploit for newer devices. So there's a big chance that it works on iPad 2. Let's wait and see!
